History
Gabrielle Roth developed 5Rhythms in the United States during the late twentieth century, drawing on her work in dance, theatre and human-potential settings. The trademarked practice is now taught internationally through classes and longer workshops.
What to expect
Teachers guide a musical wave through the five rhythms, offering verbal prompts rather than fixed steps. Participants interpret each quality in their own movement and may dance alone or in relation to others.
Access and difficulty
Movement choice is flexible, but sessions can be long, loud and physically or emotionally intense. Ask whether chairs, rest, reduced movement and leaving or re-entering the floor are supported.
Check access, pace and available adaptations with the organiser before booking, especially if you have limited mobility, an injury or specific support needs.
