These ratings describe broad tendencies, not requirements or guarantees. Teaching style, pace and access vary by teacher, level and class format.
History
Yoga encompasses varied South Asian philosophical and physical traditions that have changed through global transmission. Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early twentieth century as a system of controlled conditioning; modern studios often place both alongside dance training.
What to expect
Yoga classes may use postures, breath and flowing or held sequences; Pilates commonly uses precise repetitions for trunk support and alignment. The pace ranges from restorative to athletic.
Access and difficulty
Many teachers offer props and alternatives, but kneeling, lying down, wrist loading and floor transfers are common. Choose a clearly labelled level and confirm chair, prenatal, injury-aware or other adaptations directly.
Check access, pace and available adaptations with the organiser before booking, especially if you have limited mobility, an injury or specific support needs.
